The UB presents our experience Trans*RV at the “1st Conference on thw Health of Trans* People”

Last Friday, March 27, 2026, the first Trans* People’s Health Conference took place at the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona. This conference, organized in the context of the International Transgender Day of Visibility (March 31), aimed to give a voice to trans* people and, more generally, to all non-cisgender people, regarding their healthcare needs.

The event, promoted by the Queer Clínic Group, made up of LGBTQIA+ professionals from the Hospital, with the support of the Diversity Group of the Strategic Plan and the Hospital’s Management, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to equity and diversity, continuing to move towards more inclusive, respectful, and high-quality care.

The program included the participation of researchers from the Carlos III Health Institute, who presented the results of the Transaludes study. The new Internal Guide for the Care of Trans* People was also presented, a key tool for harmonizing criteria and improving clinical support.

The day was completed with two thematic panels: the first, with a more social focus, centered on the experiences and challenges in accessing the health system, entitled “Beyond Binarism. The Impact of Gender on the Health of Trans* People,” and the second, with a more clinical focus, aimed at sharing knowledge and good healthcare practices, “Non-Normative Bodies. The Clinic at the Service of Gender Dissidence.

During the first thematic session, led by Pepita Giménez Bonafé, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona (Bellvitge Campus), attendees were able to participate in the immersive Virtual Reality experience “Trans* VR” that we developed at Immersium Studio for the University of Barcelona.

This experience allows you to live firsthand the experience of a trans person in an everyday context, with the aim of fostering empathy and understanding.

With this event, the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona reaffirms its commitment to visibility, respect and continuous improvement of care for all citizens, placing active listening as a fundamental tool to move towards a more inclusive and person-centered healthcare system.
