Filming of the Family Focal Point project (Doctors Without Borders)

Family Focal Point VR is a Virtual Reality training experience designed to enhance the skills of specialists in Family Focal Point (delivering bad news to families), which we are developing for Doctors Without Borders.

Doctors Without Borders staff encounter various types of incidents while carrying out their humanitarian duties. In this experience, we have developed two different scenarios to recreate the kinds of situations they may face. At the beginning of the experience, the user can choose between English and French. The experience presents decision-making options, and the choices made will determine the course of action. The user will receive feedback on their decisions, along with expert commentary from the Doctors Without Borders team.

The first scenario, Kidnapping, takes place in a conflict-affected country in the Middle East, where armed men attack an Doctors Without Borders team, abducting a driver and two healthcare workers. The second scenario, Detention, is set in an African country experiencing civil conflict, where two Doctors Without Borders colleagues have been detained.

Familiy Focal Point – Kidnapping

In the Kidnapping scenario, the experience unfolds in a Middle Eastern conflict zone controlled by a rebel army. Doctors Without Borders staff operate in the area, providing emergency room care, primary healthcare consultations, and hospital referrals. Armed men attack an Doctors Without Borders team, kidnapping the driver and several doctors. In this experience, the user takes on the role of the designated person responsible for communicating with the families of the kidnapped individuals.

Family Focal Point – Detention

In the Detention scenario, the setting is an African country affected by civil conflict involving a separatist group. Doctors Without Borders has been working in the separatist region for several years, but due to suspicions regarding international organizations, two Doctors Without Borders colleagues are arrested. In this experience, the user plays the role of the designated person responsible for communicating with the family of one of the detainees.
