VR Grief Project

The Grief Project is a project that we are developing for the Universidad of Barcelona within the DIGAPREN Project.

In the DIGAPREN project, Digitization of learning environments, we are developing several immersive learning experiences, including VR Grief, Clinical VR and Trans* VR. The VR Grief experience, developed for the pedagogical and social field, consists of management and actions in mourning situations, where a situation is recreated in which the professional faces a primary school student who has lost a family member.

Immersive Experience
This immersive experience has been specifically developed to bring the experience of grief in the school environment closer to students of Pedagogy, Teaching and Social Education. The user assumes the role of a school teacher, who will accompany one of her students, when she faces the loss of a loved one.
Below are some scenes from the filming of this experience.

In this experience, the school teacher accompanies a 12-year-old student who has lost her father in a traffic accident. The experience generates an emotional climate of grief so that students empathize with the feelings of uncertainty, fear, insecurity, discomfort, sorrow… so that they welcome them. From here they can evoke a personal loss and a space of psychological safety opens up to express emotions. The experience emphasizes the different phases of grief such as denial (defensive), depression/anger, guilt and acceptance.
We are very happy with the result of this experience since knowing how to manage periods of grief is a situation that we will all have to face sooner or later in our lives. It is very useful to know how to accompany both adults and children in these types of situations. This experience helps to understand the different phases of grief in a simple and experiential way, and will greatly help the students of the University of Barcelona to understand the specific characteristics of this very painful process.
