Luis Villarejo participates in the final event of the Digital WBL project

Digital Work Based Learning is a project aimed at developing an innovative methodological approach using virtual reality, going beyond current training standards in e-learning methods. The project seeks to guide trainers and vocational education and training (VET) institutions in integrating a digital work-based learning (WBL) pathway to enhance the training experience and create new business opportunities.

The final event of the Digital WBL project, titled “Tackling Future Challenges in Digital Skills for VET Trainers” took place on February 24, 2025, at the Open University of Catalonia. This event, organized by Edul@ab, served as a platform for reflecting on and consolidating achievements in improving the digital skills of VET trainers.

During the event, the project’s results were highlighted, leading to a forward-looking discussion on how to sustain and expand these outcomes to meet the evolving demands of the European digital landscape.

Several key resources were presented, including Guidelines for Designing Digital WBL & Remote Experiential Activity, The VET Practice Evaluation Tool (VPET), designed to identify areas for developing best practices in digital WBL, The Blueprint for VET Trainers’ Development of Digital Competence, The Emerging Digital Skills Model for VET

Towards the end of the event, Laura Eigbrecht (Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University) moderated an open session for all participants. The panel featured experts such as Elena Senís (Institute Hospital del Mar) and Luis Villarejo (Immersium Studio), who provided valuable insights into the future of VET and strategies for its advancement. The discussion focused on policy recommendations, strengthening partnerships between industry, academia, and VET institutions, and improving trainers’ skills to address emerging digital skill needs.

We would like to thank the event organizers—Pablo Baztán, Montse Guitert, Teresa Romeu, and Albert Sangrà—for inviting us to this gathering, where we exchanged views on the future of VET and explored strategies to enhance collaboration between industry and education while improving digital skill competencies.
