Our Trans*RV experience is beginning to be used by students at the University of Barcelona

Trans*RV is an immersive Virtual Reality experience that we have developed for the University of Barcelona, designed to create scenarios that highlight gender inequalities. This experience provides tools to help understand how Trans* individuals feel in different situations in their daily lives. To ensure maximum realism and authenticity, this experience was filmed with Trans* actors and has been specifically designed with all their characteristics and particularities in mind.

Students in the Medicine and Biomedical Sciences programs at the University of Barcelona began using this practical experience in their classes at the end of 2024. The goal is for students to identify gender-based inequalities faced by these communities and equip them with the necessary tools to combat them as future healthcare professionals. Students will engage in various stories where they will observe situations in which inequalities and improper treatment occur simply because a person is a woman, transgender, non-binary, or homosexual, among others. This training will be provided not only for future healthcare professionals, but also for current healthcare workers.

Trans* RV is one of three experiences we have developed for the University of Barcelona after winning the public tender to produce immersive experiences for students in Health Sciences. We have developed two experiences in the pedagogical and social fields—Trans*RV and Management and Actions in Grief Situations—as well as one in the medical field: Physical Examination of a Patient and Symptom Detection.

Media Coverage

The University of Barcelona has published several articles about the Trans*RV project, which has received funding from the European Community under the Citizens, Equality, Rights, and Values (CERV) program for 2024. This project challenges gender stereotypes, aims to mitigate discrimination against women in the workplace, and promotes a culture of shared responsibility in caregiving tasks.
