Training in Extended Reality (XR) for high school teachers

Sector:

  • Educació

Immersium Studio has made a collaboration with the IES Castellet (Sant Vicenç de Castellet), where we have trained two secondary school teachers in the use of Extended Reality (XR). We have conducted some training sessions to accompany them in discovering how to carry out teaching experiences with immersive technologies.

In this collaboration, Sergi and Pere Lluís have attended talks and have carried out various training activities, such as creating a Virtual Reality (VR) scenario with interactive 360 video as we do in our training experiences. In this way they can transfer this knowledge to students so that they are more prepared to meet the needs of today’s labor market. In fact, one of the main objectives of this collaboration has been to bring the real needs of companies closer to training in Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO). We have even discussed the possibility that the students of this Institute can carry out internships at Immersium Studio.

Below we show you some of the activities and projects in Virtual and Augmented Reality that have been carried out by the students of the higher grade training cycle in multiplatform application development during the 2021-2022 academic year.

Virtual Reality

Education center tour:

With a 360 camera that we left them for a few weeks, they generated a virtual tour of institute building’s ground floor.

This project was carried out by the 1st year students of the Higher Cycle of Multiplatform Application Development with technology: browser with WebGL, developed with html, css and javascript, using the A-frame framework.

VR Dungeon:

Virtual Reality video game for Google Cardboard

The students, from a program skeleton, develop a level of a video game for cardboard glasses. In order to interact without a gamepad or other pointing device, the character advances when looking down, and shoots by hovering over enemies.

This project was carried out by 2nd year students of the Higher Cycle of Multiplatform Application Development with Unity technology.

Augmented Reality

Dice with AR content

Within a geometric shapes project for ESO, students develop Augmented Reality content (video, 3D figures, images…), which is projected onto each of the faces of a dice with markers.

This project was carried out by 1st year students of the Higher Cycle of Multiplatform Application Development with technology: browser with WebGL, developed with html, css and javascript using the framework A-frame.js and Ar.js

ART Castellet 2022

The Higher Cycle students of Multiplatform Application Development created an android application in which Augmented Reality content is added, showing images and animations with interaction, on drawings created by the students of the artistic baccalaureate.

This project was carried out by 2nd year students of the Higher Cycle of Multiplatform Application Development with Unity and Vuforia technology.

Tests with professional equipment

Apart from the development and design of activities and projects in Virtual and Augmented Reality, the students of the higher level training cycle in multiplatform application development have the opportunity to enjoy playful outings to get to know virtual reality games with professional equipment. In this way, students can test with professional equipment those games that they develop themselves in the classroom, in order to be aware of the validity of the work carried out.

We are very happy to have carried out this collaboration with IES Castellet, because as we have already seen with the examples carried out by the students, they have learned the operation of various immersive technologies that will have a good use in their future. The transmission of up-to-date knowledge to students by secondary school teachers is a very powerful tool in today’s society, because it allows them to experience first-hand the use of immersive technologies, which are and will be part of the future.
