Erasmus + ITSHEC – Transversals Skills in Health and Social Care
8 de July de 2021
ITSHEC – Integration of Transversal Skills into Health and Social Care, Higher Education and the Curriculum -is an international collaboration project between different universities and educational institutions, coordinated by Pompeu Fabra University in partnership with Immersium Studio, Escola Superior d’Infermeria del Mar, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and Split University (UNIST). ITSHEC is co-financed by Erasmus+ and the European Union.
¿WHAT ARE TRANSVERSAL SKILLS?
Transversal or soft skills are personal skills that go beyond technical knowledge and are based on adaptation to changing environments. Thus, they are closely related to emotional intelligence and the ability to communicate and must be combined with hard skills, more related to performing a specific task.

ITSHEC: TRAINING IN TRANSVERSAL SKILLS FOR HEALTHCARE STUDENTS
Along with technoscientific knowledge, transversal skills are crucial for students to become better professionals in the future. They impact the student for all lifelong learning and ongoing professional development. In addition, they imply a great social impact because they help to strengthen and humanize the doctor-patient relationship, making patients more involved in their own health and care.
The objective of ITSHEC is the development of Transversal Skills in students of medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, social work and occupational therapy. Specifically, the project focuses on designing, piloting and implementing teaching-learning strategies about the following main Transversal Skills: critical and creative thinking, learning to learn and interpersonal and socio-emotional skills.
At ITSHEC we will develop educational teaching-learning strategies, incorporating hihgly rigorous pedagogical frameworks and innovative tools such as Virtual Reality. This implies that we will not only develop materials for students, but also for teachers, so that they can be trained in how to educate their students in Transversal Skills.

IMMERSIUM STUDIO IN ITSHEC
Immersium Studio is the only European company specialized in immersive training through interactive 360 video. We combine pedagogical strategies and Virtual Reality to create highly rigorous and efficient interactive training.
That is why we take care of the creation, design and development of Virtual Reality scenarios within the framework of the ITSHEC project. Based on the knowledge generated during the research phases by the collaborating universities, we will design experiences in which students can put their knowledge about Transversal Skills into practice.
The goal of Immersium Studio is that students can apply their knowledge of transversal skills before putting them into practice in real life, through the pedagogical approach of Learning by Doing. Interactive Virtual Reality is the perfect tool to implement this active learning. VR 360 video offers students experiential experiences that multiply content retention by four, by placing them at the epicenter of the action. Failure is the key to success, because learning from our mistakes in formative periods is what allows us to really advance in our learning; and Virtual Reality allows just that, since an error in Virtual Reality is one less error in reality.
PROJECT PRESENTATION VIDEO
In this video you can see the presentation of the collaborators and main researchers of the project.
MAIN OUTPUTS OF THE PROJECT
- Methodological guide
It includes the pedagogical framework; in which transversal competences are specified and the levels of development of competencies and the most appropriate and innovative teaching-learning strategies are set. Includes also an evaluative framework.
- Toolkit
It contains educational resources to work on the different transversal competences.
- Training through Virtual Reality
We are going to develop three immersive experiences as educational resources to nourish transversal skills.
