Xiaomi presents its firstAugmented Reality glasses

Xiaomi presented at MWC 2023 the Wireless AR Smart Glass Discovery Edition,  its first Augmented Reality glasses: futuristic, lightweight, and with innovative gesture control.

In Mobile World Congress 2023 we have had the opportunity to learn about and observe first-hand some innovative devices that are have launched at this event such as the Xiaomi 13 Series mobiles or the Honor Magic5 Series, but they have highlighted the launch of several Augmented Reality glasses, as are theWireless AR Smart Glass Discovery Edition and the OPPO Air Glass 2

The ones that have caught our attention the most are Wireless AR Smart Glass Discovery Edition, which should be noted as their name indicates, are wireless, and this makes them very interesting, since the user experience wireless is crucial for the future of this type of device. Another important feature is that the Chinese brand promises a full link latency of just 50 milliseconds, and a wireless latency of just 3 milliseconds when connected to a mobile phone. AR Smart Glass has been developed with the technology Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 the Qualcomm.

Design is one of the points where Xiaomi seems to have made the right decision in developing its Augmented Reality glasses. Not only because they have a futuristic appearance that really suits them, but also because the materials used have allowed for a very lightweight final product. The device boasts a frame made from a magnesium-lithium alloy, with carbon fiber parts. It incorporates a siloxy anode battery that brings its total weight to just 126 grams.

Another interesting element of the Xiaomi Wireless AR Smart Glass Discovery Edition is the implementation of Retina-level displays, which allow for a virtually seamless integration of virtual elements into the real world. As for the displays themselves, the device incorporates two Micro OLED panels with a brightness of up to 1,200 nits. Additionally, the glasses allow you to switch with a single tap between a “transparency” mode for more fluid interaction with the real world and a darker setting for easier viewing of content.

He gesture control of Xiaomi app is also truly innovative, as it uses the user’s palm as a control surface. The device’s cameras recognize the middle phalanges of the index and middle fingers as sections that can be controlled using the thumb. According to the company, microgestures to interact with apps or scroll have been specifically designed to allow easy operation of the glasses using just one hand.

In Immersive Studio we are convinced that technology is moving towards an increasingly digital world, and devices like these glasses bring this world closer to reality. Augmented Reality is increasingly being applied in various fields such as fashion, furniture, logistics and advertising, and the development of technology is essential to its ever-increasing application with greater quality and interaction.
