The “Safety in Chemistry Laboratories in VR<\/strong>” project is an immersive experience that we are developing for the Proven\u00e7ana Institute<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project is based on the design and implementation of a Virtual Reality experience<\/strong> that puts chemistry students in common risk situations in the laboratory and that are difficult to recreate in real life. The users of the experience will be first-year students<\/strong> of the CFGM <\/strong>of Laboratory Operations<\/strong>, and first-year students <\/strong>of the CFGS<\/strong> of Analysis and Quality Control Laboratory<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This experience will be an experiential training complement <\/strong>to the safety training units in chemical laboratories already available at the center, and will help students identify the risks<\/strong> present in a chemical laboratory<\/strong> and act following the established protocols<\/strong> in cases of accidents in chemical laboratories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When co-designing this experience, special attention will be devoted to conveying and modulating the role of different emotions<\/strong> such as fear, panic, blockage, anxiety\/stress, assertiveness (being able to resolve the situation), relief, etc. that will occur during the experience and that play a very important role in the cognitive learning processes<\/strong>. These emotions make this type of training considerably increase content retention and the speed of learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
