The Basic Life Support VR project<\/strong> is a project we developed with University of Barcelona<\/a><\/strong> within the DIGAPREN Project<\/a>. This project was made possible thanks to the collaboration of Professors Dr. Ricard Valero, Dr. Antoni Sabat\u00e9, and Dr. Marta Raurell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the DIGAPREN project, Digitization of learning environments<\/strong>, we are developing several immersive learning experiences, including BLS VR, Grief VR<\/a> and Trans*VR.<\/a> The Clinical VR experience, developed by the medical field<\/strong>, consists of the physical examination<\/strong> of a patient and detection of symptoms<\/strong>, recreating a scenario that allows the recurrent practice of the physical examination of a patient using the acronym ABCDE<\/strong> (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability and Exposure). This activity is aimed at undergraduate students in health sciences (nursing, medicine, dentistry and podiatry).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this experience the user trains in decision-making to assess, diagnose and treat a patient in cardiac arrest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This filming was very difficult because it was very technical in all the steps to follow, but we are very happy with the result obtained. With the collaboration of different medical professionals, we were very careful to apply all the steps of the ABCDE<\/strong> protocol (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability and Exposure) correctly. Emergency situation experts carefully reviewed the various scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Different students from the health sciences degrees (nursing, medicine, dentistry and podiatry) at the University of Barcelona use these experiences at different times in their training. They are very useful in their professional development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A clinical trial was conducted with nursing students at the Bellvitge Campus who participated in the VR Basic Life Support experience. The article, currently in the publication process, concludes that VR significantly improves skills and knowledge for performing Basic Life Support (BLS) <\/strong>compared to training using only mannequins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
